Scaffolding for Local Change-Making: Innovative EdD Supports Across Contexts

Thu, April 24, 3:35 to 5:05pm MDT (3:35 to 5:05pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Terrace Level, Bluebird Ballroom Room 2A

Session Type: Structured Poster Session

Abstract

EdD programs have the potential to be forces of local change-making. However, EdD programs are typically very condensed and intense, and EdD students usually hold full-time positions (often in leadership roles) and serve as caregivers while earning their doctoral degree. These challenges are even more intense for EdD students from marginalized groups. Given trends of diversification in graduate studies, understanding how to support EdD students is more important than ever. In this poster session, EdD scholars share emerging research on innovative practices for supporting EdD students to navigate common challenges–including dissertation writing, developing research skills, identifying problems of practice, analyzing causality, and developing community and peer support–to successfully to gain skills necessary for engaging in research for local change.
