Session Type: Symposium
This symposium will highlight a collaborative research project focusing on a federal arts grant, CULTIVAR (Communities Uplifting Learners Through Imagination and Vibrant Artistic Reflections), and its impact on one school district. This session will analyze the successes and challenges with creating culturally relevant arts integrated initiatives at the school and district level and will foster a dialogue between the authors and participants about ways to move forward and strategies for future success. This symposium will identify the many facets that go into facilitating a successful arts integration initiative – from classroom curriculum, to family engagement, to teacher professional development and examine how all these pieces worked together, and at times struggled to work together, during the initiative’s implementation.
