Session Type: Symposium
In the service of remedy and repair, this symposium addresses the critical issue of increasing racial and ethnic diversity of the K12 educator workforce in the United States. Research underscores the benefits that diverse educators bring to all students, preparing them for a global society and fostering positive identities, cultural competencies, and social cohesion. Despite these benefits, there remains a significant underrepresentation of educators of color. Presentations will highlight a program at a historically black college to diversify K12 STEM teachers, strategies from registered teaching apprenticeship programs, legislative efforts in a northeastern state, and a national network's initiatives to diversify the principal workforce. Participants will engage in dialogue to share experiences and collaborate on strategies.
