Session Type: Symposium
This symposium describes a model for professions seeking to design professional development programs for educational researchers. The work draws from situated learning theory and the dual concepts of communities and landscapes of practice in describing design and implementation of a professional development initiative for health professions education researchers. An initial paper sets the theoretical foundations, development, and implementation of the Grant Writing and Mentorship in Education Research (GAMER) program, conducted for physical therapists. A second paper shares findings on the impact and outcomes of GAMER at the levels of individual participants, organizations/institutions, and the profession. A final paper describes the mechanisms of GAMER program expansion to include three other rehabilitation professions: Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, and Audiology.
