Session Type: Roundtable Session
Children utilize technology independently in both educational and everyday settings. While children and their families often learn together in a variety of shared spaces, co-engagement around educational technology can be limited. How might broadcast and digital media be leveraged to support family learning? In this symposia, we will explore two case studies of a digital media-based program developed with and for families with early elementary-aged children and varying cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Attendees will hear from media developers, learning researchers, and informal educators, all reflecting on the unique opportunities and real-world challenges of integrating educational media into community-based family programming, and the role of digital media in educational remedy and repair.
