Session Type: Symposium
This panel explores school-university partnerships and community-based research approaches that support culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) students across educational settings. Utilizing authentic cariño (Curry, 2021; Salmerón et al., 2021) and community cultural wealth lenses (Yosso, 2005), our scholarship centers on how students’ diverse linguistic backgrounds and cultural perspectives can be leveraged to benefit schools and communities. Our discussion features insights from partnerships that enhance the educational outcomes of CLD students. Key topics include strategies for promoting cultural competence among educators and university faculty, curriculum development incorporating culturally relevant content and pedagogies, bilingual and multilingual resources supporting language acquisition and academic achievement, and youth participatory action research approaches supporting CDL students' educational journeys.
