Session Type: Symposium
This symposium presents three papers focused on supporting early career teachers (ECTs) through district-university collaborative induction programs. Addressing the critical issues of teacher attrition and shortages, especially among teachers of color and those in schools with high percentages of students of color, the studies highlight the essential role of mentorship in improving teacher retention. Paper 1 explores a university-district partnership aimed at creating effective mentorship systems for preservice and inservice teachers. Paper 2 investigates the challenges ECTs face in supporting students with disabilities and their mentors’ responses to those challenges. Paper 3 details the development and pilot of a responsive mentor curriculum. The symposium will feature a discussant and ample time for interactive, small group discussion.
