Educational Resource Allocation for Recovery, Renewal, and Restoration

Wed, April 23, 9:00 to 10:30am MDT (9:00 to 10:30am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Terrace Level, Bluebird Ballroom Room 3E

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

This year's AERA theme calls for research, remedy, and repair to secure just educational renewal for learners. Our proposed symposium draws inspiration from this theme, organizing scholars to consider how educational resources can contribute to Ladson-Billings' "hard re-set"—a critical reimagination of education post-crisis—while addressing the "education debt," the legacy of systemic racism and discrimination weighing on historically marginalized students. Presentations will examine educational practice, policy, and law, exploring the cost of equity-centered educational leadership systems, factors shaping school finance litigation, responses to complex budget constraints, and costs of reimagined educational systems capable of closing educational opportunity gaps. This session aims to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on educational equity and resource allocation in the face of systemic challenges.
