Session Type: Symposium
Community schools are a place-based strategy, where schools partner with community agencies and organizations to provide “wrap-around” support to facilitate student growth. However, community schools can be challenging to sustain, and there are few lessons about how to scale them in an equitable way. This symposium’s aim is to help us understand the opportunities and challenges that key stakeholders experience as they attempt to scale and sustain community schools across Kentucky. By highlighting the experiences of teachers, service coordinators, community members and other participants, this session sheds light on the types of programs, policies, and practices that need to be in place for community schools to become sustainable, prevalent, and equitable.
