Session Type: Roundtable Session
Understanding and improving educational outcomes and promoting equity requires a critical examination of measures of SES and OTL from the perspective of large-scale education studies. These studies provide comprehensive and comparable data that show how SES and OTL measures impact student achievement across different contexts and learning environments. The valuable insights gained from these studies have the potential to significantly inform policies and practices aimed at promoting educational equity, quality, and effectiveness. Presenters in this symposium explore how measures such as resources, school climate, and teacher factors relate to student experiences and achievement using data from various large-scale education studies such as NAEP, TIMSS, and PISA.
Investigating the association between instructional OTL factors and mathematics attitudes using NAEP 2022 - Antranik T Kirakosian, Washington State University; Robert Finnegan, Educational Testing Service; Marisol Kevelson, Educational Testing Service; Selene Sunmin Lee, McGraw Hill
Relationship between mathematics achievement and home possessions: Cluster analysis across 73 countries using PISA 2022 - Doo Rhee Lee, The George Washington University; Selene Sunmin Lee, McGraw Hill; Anita M. Sands, Educational Testing Service; Jonas P Bertling, Educational Testing Service
Analyzing Absenteeism and Changes in Absenteeism by SES Level in NAEP 2019 and 2022 - Rebecca C. Shipan, American Institutes for Research; Markus Broer, American Institutes for Research
Exploring African American students’ educational resources and achievement in mathematics cognitive domains in TIMSS 2019 - Olasunkanmi James Kehinde, Norfolk State Uinversity; Judy H. Tang, Westat
Impact of SES, instructions, and school climate on financial literacy and mathematics achievement in PISA 2022 - Laura Coward Egan, Westat; Judy H. Tang, Westat; Olasunkanmi James Kehinde, Norfolk State Uinversity
