Session Type: Roundtable Session
The symposium will discuss the issues associated with the implementation of Vygotskian-based ECE curricula in Russia and the US. The first presenter will use an example of a Vygotskian-based Russian curriculum PROdetey [PROkids] to discuss some of the general issues associated with the implementation of a child-centered curriculum in a “system-centered” educational environment. The second presentation will focus on the successes and challenges of scaling up the implementation of a Vygotskian-based ECE curriculum Tools of the Mind. The third presentation will focus on a lesser-known aspect of development-oriented education rooted in the Vygotskian and post-Vygotskian framework: its potential for serving as therapy for young children with trauma while at the same time promoting their learning and development.
