Session Type: Symposium
This symposium brings together a collective of critical sociologists who have supported one another in transgressing scholarly gatekeeping to study education in ways that remain true to their lived experiences, as well as the praxis of dreaming and building toward liberatory futures. From podcasting for public education to participatory action research, each panelist will share their unique approaches and rationale for engaging in an imaginative sociology of education. Attendees will be invited to reflect on practices of scholarly othering, consider how these patterns constrain our ability to meet the challenges of the contemporary moment, share strategies for transgressing disciplinary gatekeeping, and imagine possibilities for research and education as the practice of freedom.
