Session Type: Symposium
Equity leadership positions have increased in U.S. schools and districts, but more research is needed on how equity leaders approach their roles in their respective schools and districts, which are often highly politicized contexts. During this symposium, equity directors and scholars of equity leadership will engage in a critical discussion to explore how local political contexts mediate equity leadership approaches with equity directors positioned as critical knowledge producers. The researchers will frame the conversation and explore key themes of the session papers in dialogue with the equity directors. The equity directors’ insights as practitioners combined with the researchers’ contributions will enable equity leadership roles to be considered in a more nuanced and contextualized way.
