Session Type: Symposium
This session compiles seven papers from three distinct African diasporic perspectives, grounded in the experiences of seven Black scholars from the U.S., Cape Verde, and Brazil. The purpose is to explore the participation of Black scholars in academia and to develop strategies to challenge centuries of knowledge erasure caused by colonialism, capitalism, and white supremacy. The session critically examines the concept of nation-states and state apparatuses to understand better how race and anti-Blackness intersect with social factors such as racism, class, gender, and sexuality. This scholarly dialogue continues the international community-building efforts among scholars from the U.S., Cape Verde, and Brazil, aiming to strengthen the scholarship and amplify voices advocating for dismantling white supremacy in academic environments.
