Storywork as a Generative Model for Educator Attunement and Learning Toward Justice and Well-Being

Fri, April 25, 8:00 to 9:30am MDT (8:00 to 9:30am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Terrace Level, Bluebird Ballroom Room 3H

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

This session brings together teacher educators and scholars working across contexts to develop a model of justice-oriented educator learning through storywork. Drawing on heterogeneous theories and genealogies of storywork, this model supports educators to work with stories of moment-to-moment teaching and learning interactions (drawn from ethnographic and interactional data) in ways that cultivate deep attunement to the generative complexities of disciplinary phenomena, pedagogical mediation, and student sense-making and identity. Examining rich and variegated cases of storywork, we consider the mediational practices and qualities of storywork that support expansive forms of educator learning, and the ways educators’ identities, capacities for pedagogical and social imagination, and disciplinary understandings deepen and grow within such environments.
