Session Type: Symposium
Despite their unique insights and valuable qualifications, Black teachers are typically excluded from research and policy-making processes. Through their lived experiences, Black teachers hold significant knowledge and potent visions that are critical for transforming educational systems. This workshop session will engage attendees in the findings from our national participatory action research (PAR) project with Black teacher-researchers, inviting participants to discuss how to sustain Black teachers as well as explore how racial capitalism is reproduced in our schools. We will also explore how Black teachers engage in everyday forms of struggle as well as envision and chart the path towards educational and racial justice.
