Session Type: Symposium
As the health professions education (HPE) fields pivot towards justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI), it's crucial to address and understand how power hierarchies within learning environments affect learners. This session introduces the concept of the haunted curriculum to explore how learners are impacted by persistent forms of oppression and injustice, such as racism and ableism. Through an examination of two distinct training environments, we illustrate how violent histories continue to influence current educational practices and experiences. Audiences will gain tools to evaluate their own learning environments to ensure that they are not causing further injustice and harm to learners when addressing JEDI content.
