Session Type: Symposium
This symposium features three entities engaged in a partnership endeavor that primarily serves Black and Brown children and families in one urban midwestern city that has faced extreme state and local disinvestment. The partner entities include a public, research university, an urban preK-12 public school district, and a philanthropic organization. The central premise of this partnership is improving educational opportunity is essential to neighborhood reclamation and neighborhood reclamation simultaneously supports and renews opportunities to learn. We share four dimensions of this work: (1) the design of this neighborhood investment, (2) the design of equity-centered educational experiences; (3) the outcomes of these experiences for students and teachers, and (4) the vision-setting, commitments, and infrastructure necessary to engage in this research-practice partnership.
