Investigating Teacher Health with Noninvasive Biomarkers: Trends and Lessons a Field Trial of a Mixed-Method Protocol

Thu, April 24, 9:50 to 11:20am MDT (9:50 to 11:20am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Exhibit Hall Level, Exhibit Hall F - Poster Session

Session Type: Poster Session

Abstract

The Covid pandemic increased attention to health and stress in schools. This interdisciplinary paper (education and medicine) reports on a single-site field trial of a protocol meant to gauge teacher health through the collection of quantitative and qualitative perception data (survey, questionnaires, logs, and interview) and non-invasive biomarkers (via wearable device). The small scale of this trial provides lessons to inform future studies and highlights a need for understanding teacher health, particularly considering the nationwide teacher shortage and the emerging impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. As such, the authors advocate for continued work to investigate the health of the teaching workforce. In the full paper, descriptive trends are discussed along with a discussion on benefits, feasibility, and limitations.
