Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism in Education SIG Business Meeting

Sat, April 26, 7:00 to 8:30pm MDT (7:00 to 8:30pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 109

Session Type: Business Meeting

Abstract

This meeting will share the business of the CTBE SIG as well as a Keynote Lecture by Prof. Hongyu Wang:

Relational Attunement, Nonviolent Intervention, and Daoist Pedagogy

This presentation explores what relational attunement and nonviolent intervention essential to Daoist wuwei means for pedagogical relationships and interactions. Wuwei is often considered as spontaneous movement, but its spontaneity is enabled by relational attunement to all the aspects of a classroom. Wuwei is often perceived as passive, without agency, but its non-dual action requires intervention and interruption—not by force—to enable students’ non-dualistic learning and personal cultivation.
