The Art of Writing Theory: Insights and Supports for Aspiring Authors in Educational Psychologist

Thu, April 24, 1:45 to 3:15pm MDT (1:45 to 3:15pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 605

Session Type: Workshop

Abstract

Thomas Jefferson argued that theories are the most practical of scientists’ instruments. We agree. In this session, seasoned authors and editors will demystify the process of developing and refining theoretical frameworks and conceptual contributions in the journal, Educational Psychologist. Attendees will explore strategies for identifying gaps in the literature and articulating clear arguments that advance theory in educational psychology. Emphasis will be placed on aligning submissions with the journal’s specific aims, addressing reviewers’ expectations, and avoiding common pitfalls. Through interactive discussions and examples, attendees will have opportunities to discuss how to turn good ideas into publishable papers that advance the most practical of scientists’ instruments—theory.
