Session Type: Roundtable Session
In this roundtable discussion, scholars will share findings related to measurement of civic learning through national assessments like NAEP and an educator facing tool for measuring civic agency. By analyzing the variability in civic scores on the NAEP exam, scholars explored the impact of student demographics, and the role of civic curriculum exposure on civic achievement. In addition, researchers found that the newly developed civic agency tool has the potential to identify pathways toward collaboration, improvement, and collective meaning making that benefits educators’ ability to expand common ideas about what an empowering educational system looks and feels like. Alongside the conversation about measurement, scholars will discuss the extent to which standards and frameworks embody civic education practices.
