Abstract

In this session, scholars will share research related to teacher preparation, teachers’ beliefs and practices connected to civic learning. One paper focuses on how teachers facilitating youth civic action research projects conceptualize citizenship, and offers insights for enhancing democratic citizenship education and teacher professional development programs. Another paper examines elementary pre-service teachers’ perspectives on information and media literacy, civic learning, and engagement. A third paper explores teacher learning and thoughts after participating in professional development focused on digital civic inquiries. Finally, a fourth paper will share kindergarten teachers' beliefs and practices fostering civic engagement in young learners.
