Doctoral degree completion rates are critical indicators of a society’s research capacity and intellectual growth. Historically, inequities have impeded Indigenous PhD candidates from advancing into and out of higher education, thus limiting their representation in research fields. For years, senior Indigenous scholars have worked to transform doctoral education for Indigenous PhD candidates by implementing tailored mentorship and support systems. Addressing these unique cultural and educational needs aims to increase doctoral completion rates, fostering a more inclusive and equitable scholarly community.
