A Multilevel Model by Many Other Names: Connections Among Strands of Clustered Data Research

Abstract

In this presentation, I will discuss how a line of research can evolve for clusters of studies, each of which necessitates handling methodological challenges introduced by “multilevel” data structures. The talk validates the blurriness of the somewhat arbitrary distinctions between multilevel, structural equation, meta-analysis and item response models. The talk is intended for junior quantitative methods scholars to encourage building a focused program of methodological work while also expanding its impact and applications.
