Session Type: Symposium
Critical thinking is key to research and identify different perspectives on complex problems. Creative thinking is essential to propose new perspectives on those problems. They are thus key for remediating and repairing present and past harms. While most recognize that higher education should develop students’ critical thinking, there is little evidence that this is consistently done. And creativity is more recently acknowledged as a key competence. The session will discuss different methods that are or could be used by universities to foster their students’ critical thinking and creativity, including technology-enhanced approaches. It will show how different universities adapted and applied to their local context a common OECD-suggested intervention on critical thinking and creativity. It will also discuss the conditions that make critical thinking and creativity more acceptable and learnable in different contexts.
