Session Type: Invited Speaker Session

Abstract

Polarization and extremism have spread among young people and in society, often with violent expressions and actions that have targeted women, minoritized people, and LGBTQIA+ people. In this session, Professor Cynthia Miller-Idriss, American University, and Founding Director of the Polarization and Extremism Research and Innovation Lab will discuss her research on political and societal polarization and ways to intervene on social divisions, misogyny, racism, anti-semtism, and violence. She will consider how schools, communities, and universities can address these forms of discrimination and extremism. Following presentations, we will have a moderated discussion followed by audience questions and answers
