Tue, April 22, 4:00 to 6:00pm MDT (4:00 to 6:00pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Terrace Level, Bluebird Ballroom Room 2G

Session Type: Pre-Conference Mentoring Session

Abstract

This pre-conference mentoring session, Creating Future Educational Possibilities with Cultural-Historical Psychology and Activity Theory, welcomes graduate students, early career scholars, and researchers interested in these fields. Cultural-Historical Activity Theory (CHAT) has gained recognition as a theoretical framework, research methodology, and approach for conceptualizing innovative educational practices. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own questions and share their research or plans, fostering interactive discussions with experienced CHAT scholars. The session aims to explore applications of cultural-historical psychology and activity theory, while providing opportunities for mentorship and potential future collaborations. Participants will gain insights into how CHAT can inform their work and contribute to advancing educational research and practice.

The session will have three parts:

(1) The first part of the session will include a networking experience and presentations from senior scholars on their research.
(2) The second part will be a small mentee group experience with each mentor who presented at the panel. The discussion will focus on the mentees’ questions. The room will be divided into small groups with each or pairs of attending mentor (s)
(3) Participants switch the mentor or work in pre-established mentor-mentee pairs
