Thu, April 9, 7:45 to 9:15am PDT (7:45 to 9:15am PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level One, Petree D

Abstract

This study investigates how student voice serves as a catalyst for school reforms aimed at enhancing educational effectiveness across different types of high schools in Taiwan. Adopting a mixed-methods approach, data were collected from students attending both elite and community high schools in the Greater Taipei area. Quantitative data were obtained through surveys administered to 540 students, while qualitative insights were gathered through one-on-one interviews with 48 students to explore their perspectives and contributions. The findings reveals that student voice input promotes educational effectiveness through transformative initiatives in school reforms. Specifically, the results suggest that student voice input in elite high schools more effectively prompts stakeholders to incorporate student feedback and address reform-related challenges, compared to community high schools.
