Fri, April 10, 3:45 to 5:15pm PDT (3:45 to 5:15pm PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Room 301A

Abstract

This mixed-methods study examines preservice counselors' knowledge, training, and ethical readiness regarding the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in counselor education preparation. The quantitative phase surveys a sample of preservice counselors to assess their current understanding, perceived training needs, and self-efficacy ratings with AI tools. Concurrently, the qualitative phase includes open-ended questions to gain deeper insights into their experiences, challenges, and perspectives on AI's ethical implications in practice. Findings address current gaps in AI literacy and training within counselor education programs and professional development. This research aims to inform the development of comprehensive curricula and ethical guidelines, ensuring preservice counselors are adequately prepared to integrate AI in their professional practice as the counseling landscape changes.
