This study uses Suzhou gardens as a cultural carrier to explore the integration of Culturally Responsive Mathematics Education (CRME) with education for sustainable development (ESD). The CRME-ESD project task, “Designing Sustainable Campus Gardens Inspired by Suzhou Gardens” designed, which includes both design and budgeting task. A total of 35 students from Grades 7 and 8 in Suzhou participated. Through document analysis,Grade 8 students produced more profound and aesthetically refined designs than Grade 7, showing sustainable transformations beyond tradition. Seven students (A13, A15, B4, B7, B9, B13, B15) demonstrated particularly outstanding designs. Notably, A15 carefully considered the budgeting task.This study offers a concrete, actionable, and transferable project responding to the environmental, social, and economic dimensions of ESD.
