Sexual violence is an enduring social problem in/beyond postsecondary education (PSE), with incidence rates stagnating for decades, and increasing demands for accountability and reform. Institutions often deploy their students as peer educators (PeerEds) in prevention and response strategies. Research suggests their shared student experience can elicit greater trust; with survivors more likely to disclose to peers than service providers. However, many questions remain about PeerEds—many of whom are survivors themselves—regarding their motivations, viewpoints, practices, effectiveness, and their emotional costs serving in the role. This paper will discuss findings from a recent study and implications for research and practice.
