Abstract

This study examines the ethical dilemmas Israeli postdoctoral researchers face in the context of international mobility based on 40 in-depth interviews—20 with researchers who remained in Israel and 20 with those who pursued postdoctoral training abroad. The analysis demonstrates ethical dilemmas that arise from tensions between collective and individual values, which impact decision-making processes related to international mobility. By applying the lens of ethical dilemmas to international mobility, the analysis provides a new perspective and a valuable contribution, which is especially relevant given the growing scholarly focus on the ethics of internationalization and academic mobility. The study’s theoretical contribution is the development of a multidimensional model of ethical dilemmas for postdoctoral researchers.
