Abstract

Models-based practice (MbP) is a philosophy with an almost globally supported, aspirational ethos. At the heart of this approach is belief in theoretically informed approaches to teaching and learning and view that different pedagogical models afford the achievement of specific educational aims and learning experiences. Although half a decade’s worth of scholarship is available, the notion of MbP itself (but not the pedagogical models embedded within this concept) lacks a robust, theoretical framework with which to guide how and why practitioners think about and employ pedagogical models in the name of physical education. The aim of this conceptual research is to position human flourishing (the pursuit of a good life) as the main theoretical idea behind and justification for MbP.
