From Reflection to Transformation: Advancing Equity Through Performance Assessments and Transcendent Thinking

Wed, April 8, 1:45 to 3:15pm PDT (1:45 to 3:15pm PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level One, Petree D

Abstract

The Anaheim Union High School District (AUHSD) has systemically implemented Performance Task Assessments (PTAs) and Capstone projects as part of a districtwide strategy to center equity, student voice, and whole child development. Rooted in community schools principles and the district’s Career Preparedenss Systems Framework (CPSF) framework, this work integrates culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and interdisciplinary learning practices. Supported by national scholars, including Dr. Mary Helen Immordino-Yang, AUHSD’s focus on transcendent thinking empowers historically underserved students to connect academic learning with purpose and civic engagement. This paper highlights how AUHSD’s districtwide approach to assessment reform, professional learning, and leadership development aligns with broader efforts to "unforget histories" and shape equitable educational futures.
