Abstract

Mental health concerns like depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation are significant for youth in rural communities. Educators, tasked with fostering coping and social-emotional skills, often lack mental health training and face increased burnout. This study aimed to enhance rural educators' capacity to support youth mental health and reduce burnout by providing virtual communities of practice before, during, and after COVID-19. Educators participated in virtual professional development series on evidence-based practices (EBPs) for youth mental health. Seven series, conducted from 2019-2022, involved 509 participants. Pre- and post-surveys assessed educator capacity and burnout. Results showed improved knowledge, skills, and efficacy in supporting youth, reduced perceived stress, and increased connections with other educators.
