Abstract

Mental health can not only promote individual positive development, but also show higher resilience in the face of life pressure and adversity, so as to better adapt to the social environment and produce certain social benefits. Chinese rural adolescents are more vulnerable to mental health issues because of a wide range of parent-child separation situations. Based on relational-being theory, this study found that marital conflict had a significant positive predictive effect on rural adolescents’ mental health problems; family function and rural adolescents’ social-emotional competence independently mediated between marital conflict and rural adolescents’ mental health problems; and family function and rural adolescents’ social-emotional competence played a chain mediating role between marital conflict and their mental health problems(N=3242).
