Harmonizing as Healing, Pedagogical Attunement: A Daoist Approach

Thu, April 9, 2:15 to 3:45pm PDT (2:15 to 3:45pm PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Room 308B

Abstract

This presentation focuses on healing as an ongoing effort to harmonize amid tensions and conflicts in education. Healing as harmonizing movements, informed by Daoist philosophy, opens the possibilities for teachers and students to pursue physical, mental, and spiritual well-being and inter-being amid external turbulence. Not as a destination to reach, but a movement that infuses healing as a process of attunement that transforms personhood and relationality in education towards integration that transcends fragmentation, alienation, hostility, dualism, and violence. Healing as whole-being experiencing is embodied, intellectual, emotional, spiritual, and social. As a movement, healing may not eliminate the site of the wound or one’s sensitivity to it, but it increases physical and psychical strength to balance the harm and sustain resilience.
