Abstract

Knowledge production is a political act that shapes how the world is understood. Feminist and decolonial scholars have critiqued Western hegemonic knowledge-making systems for their positivist, masculine, and universalist orientations. Participatory Action Research (PAR) aims to break from colonial hierarchies of knowledge by democratizing knowledge production, privileging embodied and community-based epistemologies, and engaging in community action. PAR scholars have written on the incongruities they have experienced while conducting PAR within neoliberal academic institutions. In response to the theme of “Constructing a New Vision for Education Research” and GCYO’s call to “share our research stories,” we add to the literature on PAR scholars’ experiences in a colonized academy by discussing how our PAR team navigates using collective authorship in academic publishing.
