Sun, April 12, 7:45 to 9:15am PDT (7:45 to 9:15am PDT), InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown, Floor: 5th Floor, Echo Park

Abstract

Teacher well-being is critical for educator retention and student success, yet existing tools often fail to capture key factors like workload. This study presents the development and validation of a short, free, and psychometrically strong Teacher Workload Scale. Drawing on prior research and feedback from practicing teachers, the scale underwent five pilot tests, two Delphi rounds, and focus groups to ensure clarity and relevance. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses demonstrated strong reliability and validity across diverse samples. Designed to reflect the realities of today’s schools, this tool provides researchers and practitioners with a practical way to assess workload and guide support efforts, offering implications for professional development, organizational change, and teacher retention.
