Abstract

This paper introduces the D.E.S.I.G.N. Coaching Model— a recursive, relational framework grounded in design thinking, reflective practice, and data-informed coaching. DESIGN (Discover, Empathize, Set Goals, Implement, Gather, Navigate) redefines instructional coaching as a co-constructed learning process responsive to educator context. Addressing challenges of fragmented, compliance-driven professional learning, DESIGN bridges theory and practice through alignment with experiential learning theory and Stanford’s Design Thinking Process. Drawing on empirical research, the model operationalizes key coaching principles while taking into account instructional realities. The paper explores DESIGN’s application, ethical considerations, and potential to support equitable coaching, resist technocratic data use, and foster empathy-based school transformation. Future research directions include impacts on teaching quality, professional agency, and student outcomes.
