Abstract

Medical school requires extensive consumption of information which is challenging even for prepared students. Minoritized medical students begin with a potential deficit in awareness and access to educational technologies resulting in diminished rates of success on standardized assessments. In this qualitative study, minoritized medical students were interviewed to ascertain the various factors impacting their utilization of educational technologies. After thematic analysis, we discovered four themes and associated subthemes: Social Network - friends and peers, school and organizations, and internet/social media; Barriers - emotions, finances, and time management; Curricular Phase Variation - preclerkship and clerkship; and Reflections and Recommendations. We discussed that connectivism and institutional support play integral roles in participants’ educational, technological journeys.
