Thu, April 9, 2:15 to 3:45pm PDT (2:15 to 3:45pm PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Room 306B

Abstract

The research aims to contribute to socially meaningful and engaging approaches to climate change education. Its purpose is to understand how climate change impacts the working conditions and health of teachers in public schools in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The research used bibliographic research, documentary analysis, and quantitative data collection. It concludes that extreme heat resulting from climate change has a direct impact on teachers' working conditions and health. Forecasts of rising temperatures, combined with the neglect of local governments, suggest a future of increased teacher mortality and attrition. In this scenario, a critical approach to climate change education may be relevant to finding collective strategies for political action.
