Abstract

This study investigates the dynamic trajectories of academic resilience among 3,547 middle school students in southeastern China, focusing on math and English learning over three waves. Using growth mixture modeling, the study identifies four distinct resilience trajectories in both subjects: "High Resilience, Increasing Slightly," "Moderate Resilience, Stable," "Moderate Resilience, Decreasing Slightly," and "Low Resilience, Declining Rapidly" for math, and “Moderate to High Resilience, Increasing Slightly," "Moderate Resilience, Increasing Slightly," "High Resilience, Decreasing Trend" and "Low Resilience, Increasing Rapidly" for English. Subject academic performance varied significantly across the resilience trajectories. This study offers practical implications for educators to foster academic resilience and enhance student achievement across subject areas.
