This paper critically examines the interconnections, differences, and inherent tensions between eco-Marxist pedagogies and Freirean-based ecopedagogy, also exploring these aspects alongside post-criticality/humanism. A significant focus is placed on assessing whether (eco-)Marxism is anthropocentric, a crucial problematic also relevant for Freirean (ecopedagogical) work. The paper begins by outlining ecopedagogy's core tenets before delving into a detailed discussion of eco-Marxism. It further explores arguments from ecopedagogical work to illuminate the (dis)connections between eco-Marxism and ecopedagogy. Ultimately, the analysis problematizes the necessities, challenges, and possibilities for ecopedagogy, particularly in conjunction with eco-Marxism, to guide teaching efforts in disrupting the Anthropocene. This work aligns with ecopedagogy's overarching objective of fostering "globally all-inclusive socio-environmental justice and planetary sustainability."
