Abstract

This article analyzes the impact of the No Child Left Behind Act on Navajo language and cultural preservationin Arizona. The study delves into the challenges faced by Navajo public schools following the implementation of NCLB, scrutinizing the policy’s efficacy in achieving its intended objectives. By conducting a comprehensive examination of the policy’s background, rationale, development, implementation processes, and subsequent effects, this research seeks to illuminate the broader implications of NCLB on indigenous education. The findings reveal that the renewal of NCLB, coupled with several restrictive measures, including insufficient funding, stringent teacher qualification criteria, the exclusive use of English for assessments, and elevated dropout rates, has impeded efforts to revitalize indigenous languages.
