This study investigates factors shaping relationship quality in teaching-focused university-industry collaborations (UIC) through survey data from 104 Chinese enterprise representatives. Findings reveal that enterprises’ internal culture (IC) of collaborating with universities is significantly influenced by policy support, enterprises’ long-term goals, effective collaboration contents, and universities’ internal incentives. Relationship intensity (RI) between industry and universities is significantly affected by effective collaboration contents, benefits gained through collaboration, relationship quality, collaboration practices, and universities’ internal incentives. Relationship quality (RQ) between the two sectors is significantly influenced by enterprises’ benefits gained, relationship intensity and collaboration practices (relational and operational drivers), and collaboration culture, human resource goals, and technological goals (strategic and cultural drivers). The study highlights the relational foundations of successful teaching-focused collaborations.
