Research Culture in Georgian University and Its Role in the Development of Doctoral Education

Abstract

The goal of the research is to study the research culture in Georgian universities and to analyze its role in the development of doctoral education. The components of the conceptual framework are research culture indicators and organizational culture theory - “The Levels of Culture”. Ilia State University was selected based on the case study design. The perceptions of various actors within the university regarding research culture were investigated. These perceptions may vary depending on the field, research experience, mobility experience, and position at the university. Also, analyzing the data according to the conceptual framework made it possible to describe and understand the research culture in Georgian context. The role of research culture in the development of doctoral education was also analyzed.
