Abstract

While the prevalence of high school courses for college credit has increased substantially across the U.S. during, research evidence to date is inconclusive regarding its overall benefits on students' postsecondary outcomes, including college enrollment, persistence, and completion. This project answers the need for trustworthy evidence on the effects of completing college-level courses in high school through a meta-analysis of all rigorous quantitative analyses released in the previous three decades. We provide preliminary results on the pooled effects of bringing college-level coursework into high school curricula before assessing variations of effects by program type, institution level, student characteristics, and research design.
