Inspired by the works of Michael Hames Garcia and Gloria Anzaldúa, this paper aims to build a bridge between Jotería studies and Asian Critical Race Theory (A-CRT). By critiquing the boundaries A-CRT sets, this paper applies the tenets of Jotería studies to A-CRT. I argue that A-CRT needs to reimagine itself outside of the constraints set by its tenets. Rather than reframing A-CRT, this requires a holistic critical examination beginning outside of orientalism and focusing on white supremacy’s role in shaping the Model Minority within the United States and surrounding Western contexts.
